The Semester Two, 2023 Arts Night was a huge success! It was a crowded event that celebrated the whole Arts Department.Arts Night was free and open to students, teachers, and the broader Mississauga community, providing an opportunity for everyone to witness the talents of our students. The atrium was adorned with stunning visual art, while the projector showcased the impressive works of Comm Tech and Media Arts students, including animations, music videos, stop-motion films, and more, eliciting gasps, laughter, and applause from the audience.

The first performance of the night was a ritual done by Ms. Teskey’s Grade 10 drama class. It was followed by the Choir’s performance of ‘The Old Mill’ and ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ led by Ms. Fernandes. Later, two students from Mr. Crane’s class beautifully recreated A Lovely Night scene from ‘La La Land’ by dancing and lipsyncing. Mr. Crane’s Grade 12s did a fun Jailhouse Rock performance that showcased a lot of dance with a variety of songs such as ‘Beat It’ and ‘Best Friend’. The Dance club did a K-pop/Hip-hop performance while the Dance class did a Musical Mash Up featuring songs from Mamma Mia, Grease, Teen Beach Musical, Hairspray, High School Musical, Waitress, and more! Big props to Ms. Apa for helping and choreographing these performances.

Ms. Zullo's Beginner Music class gave an incredible performance of 'Sawmill Creek' and 'Swingin' at Five' despite having started playing their instruments just two and a half months ago. Advanced Music performed ‘Shake it off’ and ‘Arabian Dances’ with Senior Music, and the Senior Music group itself was brilliant in their performance of 'Bohemian Rhapsody', engaging the audience with their singing. The student-run Jazz Band was amazing with their performances of ‘Superheroes R Us’, ‘Shaft’, and ‘Backatown’. The night concluded with the Drumline’s ‘A Night at the Oscars’ which included ‘Eye of the Tiger’, ‘My Heart Will Go On’, and ‘Lose Yourself’.

Overall, Arts Night was a very fun night that reminded us to really appreciate the Arts department and all their hard work. With Ms. Zullo as the host, the night was full of laughter and applause. We admire and thank anyone who is in the arts for all the creativity, positivity, and beauty they bring to our school community.
