AVA PASSARELLI & ANDREA DE JESUS
Prom is the most iconic event in high school. It serves as a celebration of four years of hard work, friendships, and arguably some of the best memories of your life. It is also a memory to cherish and look back on. Prom is most likely one of the last days the whole class of ‘23 will all be together before graduation. At the Spirit Times, we want this special day to be perfect, so here are some tips, tricks and fashion advice for this prom season.

The prom theme this year is masquerade! Unsure about what to wear? We are here to help! The most i mportant part of prom is looking and feeling your best. It is never too early to start planning what to wear. A popular trend is anything glitter and sparkle. Prom is your night to shine, after all! Whether it’s sequins or iridescent fabric, you’ll be sure to stand out. A well-liked look is a long sequin pattern with an open tie-up back.
If you’re not one for making a statement, we got you covered! A simple satin dress with a sleek silhouette is the definition of chic. Make sure it is a bold colour that compliments your skin tone, and you'll be getting compliments for hours! Another dress style that is extremely flattering to a range of body types is a corset/bustier fit. Corsets come in many variations including sheer, lace, off-the-shoulder, beaded, satin, high slit, etc. No matter the material or pattern, a corset look will always give off a gorgeous, delicate, feminine vibe. You also can't go wrong with a cultural dress. You’ll not only be representing your country but also look stunning and confident doing it. There are so many other types of dresses that we can write pages about but be sure to look at Pinterest, Tiktok, Instagram, etc if you want personalized inspiration!

Prefer a suit? We have lots of ideas! A simple tux will be sure to impress your date. If you're going by yourself, a classic gray, black, or navy will look dashing. You could wear a three-piece suit or just a white button-up for a more casual look. A textured and ornate-looking fabric will be able to match the masquerade theme. The most important thing is that you are
comfortable and confident in what you are wearing. Prom only happens once so take the time to find the perfect suit and have adequate time to make alterations if needed. Remember, saying yes to the suit is just as important as saying yes to the dress!

Now that you know the style of your outfit, it is time to choose the colour. Black is a clean, chic, and universally flattering colour. White is popular as well but make sure it’s not too simple, a cute sequined white dress or one with a cool shape and cutouts will make your dress less wedding day and more prom! Current trending prom dress colours include a bold Barbie pink, dark green, lilac, a champagne off-white colour, midnight blue, sage green, a bold red, periwinkle and more! Choose a dress with a colour you genuinely like and that makes you look like your best self. When shopping, make sure you go with some family and friends, they know you the best and will be honest with your dress choice. Think to yourself: if you look at your prom pictures in the future, will you cringe or applaud your fashion sense?

Lastly, accessories can make or break the look. Wear shoes that not only look good with your outfit but feel comfortable enough to wear for 6 hours of walking around and dancing! If you have a date, matching dunks or converse will make everyone say that you two are couple goals (even better if they are personalized!). A purse or clutch that matches your dress or shoes could make or break your look. You need a place to keep your phone and other necessary items while dancing! Bonus points if your dress has pockets. Nothing beats a dress with pockets. Dresses with lower necklines look stunning with a long gold or silver necklace (depending on your preference) and ones with higher necklines are paired greatly with bold earrings. Add matching bracelets and rings and you’re all set! Guys feel welcome to wear accessories as well. Chain necklaces, rings, or earrings (if you have a piercing) will upgrade your look! Pro Tip: to make the day extra special, bring a Polaroid camera to stay present and save the special moments forever. Prom is the moment we have fantasized about since kindergarten and it is right around the corner so why not dress to impress?
