The Spirit Model United Nations (MUN) team recently attended the Southern Ontario Model United Nations Assembly (SOMA), and it was a thrilling and enlightening experience for all involved. The SOMA conference is one of the most prestigious Model UN events in the region, and this year's conference was held in the heart of Ontario, downtown Toronto. Students from various schools across Ontario came together to represent different countries and engage in lively discussions about global issues.

The Spirit MUN team was represented by students who had spent months researching their assigned countries and preparing position papers and speeches for the conference. They were assigned to various committees, such as the Security Council, the United Nations Development Programme, and the World Health Organization, where they discussed topics ranging from climate change to human rights to peacekeeping operations.
Throughout the conference, the Spirit team demonstrated excellent diplomatic skills, critical thinking, and public speaking abilities. They collaborated effectively with other students and negotiated compromises on some of the most pressing global issues of our time.
In addition to the academic and intellectual stimulation, Model UN also provides students with an opportunity to meet students from other schools and build new friendships. This past conference was a great opportunity for them to network and learn from other students who share their passion for global issues.
Reflecting on the conference, the Spirit MUN team expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to participate in such a meaningful event. They learned a lot from the experience and gained a deeper understanding of the complexities of international relations and diplomacy. They also expressed their gratitude for the guidance and support of their MUN advisors. Participating in the SOMA conference was an incredible experience for the Spirit MUN team, and they are already looking forward to next year's event. We congratulate them on their achievements and wish them continued success in their academic pursuits.
