Saint Patrick's day is coming up on March 17th! Often, we associate it with Ireland, the colour green, shamrocks and lots of gold. But what are the origins of this holiday, and why do we celebrate it?
St. Patrick's day is when we commemorate the death of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. He was the one who was credited with introducing the Irish to Christianity; establishing many of their churches and schools which are still being used today!
So, what’s with the colour green? Well, the colour is a symbol of Saint Patrick’s day because of the shamrocks, which were used to explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish. It’s also because the colour green symbolizes Ireland's nationalism, which is why you see green on their flag!
To show your Saint Patrick’s day spirit, wear a green shirt on top of your uniform pants this Friday, March 10th!
