Last week, our grade 11 and 12 students basked in the opportunity to venture through a religious retreat to celebrate and commemorate Holy Week and the anticipated holiday of Easter! The holy week itself is a time for preparation for Christians awaiting the resurrection of Jesus. The students of St. Marcellinus participated in numerous activities and games, allowing them to bond with their peers, enjoy their time with one another, and become better educated about God. Further, Grade 12 students had the chance to venture outdoors and experience the beautiful greenery. Before their departure, students partook in praise and worship to solidify their connection with God and write letters of commemoration towards an individual who guided their faith journey.

The feedback among grade 12s regarding the retreat was mainly positive, as they enjoyed the company of others and their surroundings. Adam Wooder, a senior, stated, “Honestly, it was great, it was nice to be out there...To be honest, we needed something like this, for sure,” while another senior said, “It’s nice, as a senior, to be around my peers and to enjoy this time we have together before we split ways [for university]”.

Many Grade 11’s expressed their excitement for their Senior retreat, after hearing the positive feedback from the Grade 12’s, “I heard they had amazing food and ice cream at the Grade 12 retreat, I can’t wait for next year”, said an anonymous Grade 11 student.

Overall, the retreat not only allowed the students to prepare for the celebration of Easter but also gave them a chance to appreciate the beauty of nature and the school community.
