Even though the prom is two months away, it is never too early to lock down a date. Everyone dreams of hearing those special seven words, “Will you go to prom with me?”. Whether it’s a group of friends or someone special, we all want someone to hang out and dance with at prom. No one can beat Heath Ledger’s iconic promposal scene in 10 Things I Hate About You but we can give you ideas that come pretty close.

The most important part of a promposal is making it personal. Just the thought of getting asked out to the prom is lovely but honestly, we would appreciate it more than a text. Getting a large poster board from Dollarama and decorating it with various coloured markers is inexpensive but effective.
Go over to their house and surprise them or if you’re feeling extra confident, do it at school and make sure someone can document your date’s reaction! It should include an inside joke between the two of

you or something they're actually interested in, such as a hobby or sport they participate in. "Call me if you want to go to prom" (Tyler The Creator), "Do you want to get lost at prom?" (Frank Ocean), or "You belong with me at prom" (Taylor Swift) are examples of lyrics you could r eference. You may mention their favourite movie, book, or show as well! We love promposals that include the individual’s favourite food. You can write puns such as "I donut want to go to prom with anyone else" or "Can you sush-see us rolling to prom together?" on the box. If you’re already dating and want to go the extra mile, get them a gift, like a Lego set, framed photo or a hoodie. Don’t forget some of their favourite flowers, and you'll be sure to earn a "yes"!

No matter who you're asking to prom, thoughtfulness is always something to include in your promposal. A sign and flowers are always a safe option, but why not go outside the box and romance them even more. Don't be afraid to go above and beyond with an elaborate promposal! It may sound like something only seen in movies, but a choreographed dance at school will have everyone talking and eager for prom. Sure it may take a lot of work and convincing but, it would be something the whole school would remember. Not a dancer? We’ve got more ideas. A creative idea is to create a scavenger hunt with locations and items that are sentimental to both of you. This is the perfect place to include an object they’ve been wanting, old tickets from a movie you watched together, an inside joke or anything you think they would love (think of the teapot from The Office). If you're an athlete (I’m looking at you track and soccer), inviting them to a sports game or event and asking them after winning (hopefully) will look right out of a movie. Lastly, baking a cake with ‘Prom?’ on the top will always be a safe and effective option, who doesn’t like food?
The most important part of promposing is to be confident! Ask the person no matter if you're scared or fear rejection, you never know what could happen. Ask out your hall crush, friends, or whoever you want to dance with and have fun! Whether you want to sing, dance, hold up a sign, or bake a cake, senior prom only happens once.
